Teacher candidates can create physically and emotionally safe classroom environments that encourage active learning, self-motivation, and cooperative interaction among students (National and state standards).

Artifact 1: Classroom Photos

I was given full responsibility to set up my classroom for my internship this school year.  For my artifact, I have included pictures of the classroom I put together for my students.  This artifact provides evidence of Environment (DM4), because it demonstrates an understanding of how I can create a safe and workable learning environment for my students. For example, I have grouped the students in a way that makes collaborative learning possible.  I have also set the classroom up so that items are easily accessible and stored and labeled in an orderly manner.  In this artifact, I show how I can create a physically and emotionally safe classroom environment that encourages active learning, self-motivation, and cooperative interaction among my students.

Artifact 2: Classroom Goals and Procedures

I was given the opportunity to set up my classroom management for my internship this school year.  For my artifact, I am including the classroom goals and procedures that I chose to use in my classroom.  The classroom goals and procedures that I am using to guide my classroom management for this school year demonstrate my understanding of Environment (DM 4), because it shows that I can create a safe and stable environment for my students.  Students will know and understand what is expected of them each day because the class procedures and goals will be outlined and displayed for them at the front of the classroom.  Knowing what is expected of them will help them to feel safe and secure in their learning environment.
